District 202:
The first LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) youth center in the country, Minneapolis-based District 202, has become a part of The Family Partnership, one of the oldest nonprofit organizations in the Twin Cities. The new partnership brings together two organizations with similar values and visions for advocacy on behalf of the LGBT community.
District 202 began in 1993 and gained national attention for its innovation in launching an LGBT center that had as many as 12,000 visits per year from youth. The Family Partnership was one of the first organizations in the country to offer LGBT-affirming counseling services, and was the incubator for the organization that became Outfront MN.
District 202 will merge into The Family Partnership’s GLBT-Kids: Abuse Intervention Program which offers support, referrals, resources, and training about and for LGBTQA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer/Questioning, Allied) youth - who are or have experienced abuse or mistreatment - and for their families, caregivers, and professionals.
